Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)

About the role

Join Youi, a dynamic and forward-thinking tech-based insurance company leading the way in in-house software engineering solutions. Currently on a cloud and tech modernisation journey, we aim to deliver cutting-edge technology products and services, empowering both our customers and employees in today's digital landscape.

As a Site Reliability Engineer, this is your opportunity to utilise your SRE skills within a developer centric, cross functional and newly formed Platform Engineering team.

Your primary objective is to enhance the developer experience and accelerate value delivery through an inventive platform. Collaborating closely with Platform Engineers, Security Engineers, and DevOps Engineers, your contribution will be vital in achieving these goals.

If you’re wanting to be part of an Agile environment that values an optimistic and growth mindset, we invite you to join us as we transform the insurance industry through technological excellence.

Key priorities:

  • Run the production platform: including the cloud workloads, platform components.
  • Monitor availability of cloud resources and infrastructure.
  • Improve quality, reliability and security posture of all platform-level applications.
  • Measure and optimise performance.
  • Take pro-active actions to ensure incidents are minimised.
  • Document every manual action taken so that they can be automated.
  • Help teams document Service-Level Objectives (SLOs).
  • Ensure that monitoring and alerts configured by software engineering teams are sufficient.
  • Build and maintain software to ensure resiliency in production systems by using Chaos Engineering techniques.
  • Design and promote modern solutions for rapidly building and deploying software in the ‘cloud’.
  • Support software engineering teams with configuring and maintaining their CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) related to their applications.
  • Contribute a Site Reliability Engineer viewpoint to help guide the platform requirements and priority.
  • Maintain documentation so that it can be consumed by software engineers in a self-service model.

About you

You will:

  • Hold a formal qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Have cloud computing platform certification (Azure preferred).
  • Demonstrate experience in Site Reliability Engineering roles, with a focus on cloud native software engineering.
  • Showcase experience of cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and related services.
  • Exhibit in-depth knowledge of cloud native architectures, microservices, containerisation (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and serverless computing.
  • Exhibit in-depth knowledge of third-party monitoring tools (e.g., New Relic, Datadog, Splunk).
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and empathise with software engineering teams.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on delivering scalable, reliable, and high-performance systems.
  • Display familiarity with security and compliance best practices in cloud-based environments.
  • Have proficiency with Linux CLI tools including Git & Docker.
  • Be skilled in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, Ruby and others.
